Yoo Myung-hee, Head of Headquarters, "Digitalization of Import-Export Logistics and Improvement of Logistics Contract System"
Director General of Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade Visits Uiwang Inland Container Terminal
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Yoo Myung-hee, head of the Trade Negotiations Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, stated, "We will actively promote the digitalization of export-import logistics and institutional improvements related to logistics contract types for the qualitative growth and leap of our exports."
On the 9th, Yoo visited the Uiwang Inland Container Base, a logistics hub in the metropolitan area, and emphasized, "We will make this year a year of export and economic rebound by achieving a positive export turnaround and restoring trade to 1 trillion dollars."
He said, "Through a public-private joint export support system, we will resolve customized difficulties such as marketing and trade finance support," and added, "We will also reexamine the risk management system for exchange rates, logistics, and other factors."
On the same day, Yoo observed the container collection and transportation process. Afterwards, to address corporate difficulties related to the surge in ocean freight rates since the second half of last year due to COVID-19 and global economic stimulus measures, he shared the government’s ongoing countermeasures with the attendees.
The government is actively promoting the extension of the public-private joint export-import logistics comprehensive response center, which was originally scheduled to operate until the end of February. The comprehensive response center has been operating jointly by the public and private sectors since December last year to resolve the issue of soaring ocean freight rates through win-win cooperation between carriers and shippers. It is responsible for continuously deploying temporary vessels on the U.S., Southeast Asia routes, allocating dedicated volumes for small shippers, supporting freight costs for small and medium-sized enterprises, and strengthening monitoring of unfair trade practices.
