Environment and Labor Committee to Hold Industrial Accident Hearing on the 22nd
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The Korea Employers Federation expressed regret on the 9th over the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee's decision to hold a hearing on industrial accidents on the 22nd and to summon CEOs of companies in sectors such as delivery and construction as witnesses, stating, "We regret the decision to hold a hearing that burdens companies."
The Federation stated, "Currently, company CEOs are doing their best to overcome the economic crisis amid the challenging management environment caused by COVID-19," adding, "In particular, they place the prevention of industrial accidents as the highest management priority and are making multifaceted efforts."
Furthermore, the Federation emphasized again, "South Korea currently imposes the world's strictest criminal penalties when industrial accidents occur," and "the effect of a punishment-only approach on preventing industrial accidents is limited."

The Federation also requested, "We hope this hearing will be an opportunity not to hold companies solely accountable, but to listen to various opinions on difficulties in corporate safety management and accident prevention, and to engage in mutual consultation."
