Tesla Announces $1.5 Billion Bitcoin Purchase

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Electric vehicle company Tesla has been confirmed to have purchased $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin. Tesla also announced its intention to recognize Bitcoin as a payment method. Boosted by this, the price of Bitcoin soared to an all-time high.
On the 8th (local time), U.S. media including Bloomberg reported that Tesla disclosed in a filing submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it had purchased $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin.
Tesla explained the reason for purchasing Bitcoin as "to maximize returns and secure diversification by utilizing cash on hand."
Tesla also stated that it would allow vehicle purchases to be paid for with Bitcoin.
CNBC described Tesla as the first major automaker to recognize Bitcoin.
Following Tesla's announcement, the price of Bitcoin surged 14.84% as of 8:25 a.m. that day, trading at $44,595.
