[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Neighbors recalled that the 10-year-old girl who was left in her aunt's care and was found dead in a bathtub with bruises all over her body was mostly alone. Almost no neighbors remembered the girl.
According to reports from MBC News and Yonhap News on the 8th, most neighbors living on the same line as the couple B in their 40s, with whom the deceased A (10) had stayed for the past three months, did not remember A.
Neighbors collectively said, "We have no memory of seeing a girl about ten years old getting off the elevator at the B couple's apartment."
Among the neighbors, children around A's age vaguely remembered her appearance.
A 10-year-old child said, "About a month ago, I met a girl pressing the button for this floor (the B couple's apartment) in the elevator," adding, "She was wearing a mask, so I don't remember her face well, but she was alone."
Another child said, "A few days ago, I met a child living here in the elevator, and she was alone," adding, "Even when neighborhood kids gathered to play, she never joined."
While the police have urgently arrested and are investigating the B couple on suspicion of child abuse against A, a woman who identified herself as A's eldest aunt claimed, "There was no sign of abuse by the B couple."
A's eldest aunt stated, "A is the child of my youngest sibling, and because my youngest sibling had difficulties taking care of the child due to moving and work, the younger sibling couple recently took care of A for about three months."
She continued, "My youngest sibling occasionally came to the younger sibling's house to see the child, and I also visited about once a week to talk with the younger sibling and see the child. Recently, the child had an eye infection, but there were no signs of bruises or abuse."
Earlier, around 12:35 p.m. that day, A was found unconscious in the bathtub of the B couple's apartment bathroom. Paramedics who responded to the 119 call from Aunt B, reporting "the child fell into the bathtub," performed CPR on A and transported her to a nearby hospital, but A ultimately passed away. The paramedics reported that A was in cardiac arrest at the time of rescue.
Medical staff at the hospital discovered bruises all over A's body and suspected child abuse, reporting it to the police. The police urgently arrested the B couple and are investigating the abuse allegations. It is reported that the B couple admitted to the police that "they had lightly hit the child a few times."
The child had been separated from her biological parents and was reportedly entrusted to her aunt since November of last year.
