GS Retail and Korea National Park Service Deliver Support Funds for Eco-Friendly Lunchbox Project
GS Retail Donates Profits from 'National Park Lunchbox Series 3 Types' to Support Local Lunchbox Businesses
Purchases Including Danyang Garlic, Gongju Chestnuts, Jangseong King Oyster Mushrooms... Promoting Local Agricultural Product Consumption and Supporting Farmers
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] GS Retail partnered with the Korea National Park Service to provide eco-friendly lunchbox business support funds to local lunchbox companies.
On the 8th, GS Retail announced that it delivered business support funds to local lunchbox companies at the Korea National Park Service headquarters in Wonju, Gangwon Province. The fund delivery ceremony was attended by Seong Changan, Head of the Convenience Store MD Division at GS Retail, Kim Sang-gi, Director of Exploration Management at the Korea National Park Service, and representatives from three local lunchbox companies.
Since signing a business agreement with the Korea National Park Service in October last year, GS Retail has launched a three-series 'National Park Lunchbox' themed around eco-friendly lunchboxes from national parks. Through this, they purchased thousands of kilograms of local agricultural products such as garlic from Danyang, chestnuts from Gongju, and king oyster mushrooms from Jangseong, contributing to the promotion of local agricultural product consumption and setting aside 1% of sales revenue as business support funds for local lunchbox companies.
GS Retail provided support funds to three local lunchbox companies: Nakwon Sikdang (Gyeryongsan), Danyang Local Food Cooperative (Northern Sobaeksan), and Nesipi F&B (Naejangsan Baegam).
The three types of National Park Lunchboxes introduced at GS25?Sobaeksan Danyang Garlic Bulgogi, Gongju Chestnut Beef Bulgogi, and Naejangsan King Oyster Mushroom Tteokgalbi?utilize local specialty ingredients and incorporate unique stories for each product, receiving great customer response with over 500,000 units sold, GS Retail reported.
GS Retail plans to continue meaningful collaborations and differentiated product development that can grow together with local communities in Korea.
Seong Changan, Head of the Convenience Store MD Division at GS Retail, said, "We are pleased to provide a small help to local businesses and farmers who are struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "We will continue to introduce differentiated products that can create synergy with local communities and pursue various collaborations."

Meanwhile, the Korea National Park Service has signed agreements with 27 local companies, including 17 social economy organizations near the parks, to reduce the use of disposable products and alleviate the inconvenience of preparing lunchboxes. They are providing National Park Lunchbox services at the entrances of hiking trails and campsites in 21 national parks nationwide.
