CU, Nostalgic Baduk Chocolate Popular... 50,000 Units Sold in One Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] CU announced on the 7th that its ‘Choegang Mini Baduk Chocolate,’ launched last month, sold over 50,000 units in January alone and ranked 3rd in sales within the chocolate category. This ranking is two spots higher than Maltesers, which has recently gained popularity as the ‘Devil’s Snack.’
In fact, Baduk Chocolate was a product previously produced by a major manufacturer but was discontinued in the late 2000s. However, there have been repeated requests for its re-release, especially from customers in their 30s and 40s. The response from customers has been explosive. Thanks to the popularity of Baduk Chocolate, total sales in the chocolate category last month increased by 15.8% compared to the same period last year.
CU is collaborating with comedian Choi Yangrak, famous as the host of the Alkkagi (egg tapping) program, to actively promote the product. Choi Yangrak plans to present a comedic Alkkagi performance using Baduk Chocolate together with his spouse Paeng Hyunsuk. The video can be viewed on Choi Yangrak’s official YouTube channel ‘Choi Yangrak’s Heehee Yangrak’ on the 5th of this month and on CU’s official YouTube channel ‘CU Tube’ on the 10th. Among customers who subscribe to CU Tube and leave comments on the video, 20 will be selected by lottery to receive Baduk Chocolate.
