"Apple-Hyundai Motor Temporarily Suspend Negotiations on Apple Car: Foreign Media Report"
Foreign Media Offer Mixed Outlooks... Bloomberg "Negotiations Temporarily Suspended" WSJ "Kia Contacts Partners"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Foreign media reports have emerged that negotiations between Apple and Hyundai Motor Group regarding the electric vehicle 'Apple Car' have recently been temporarily halted.
On the 5th (local time), Bloomberg News cited multiple sources, reporting, "Apple had been in talks with Hyundai Motor and Kia about electric vehicle production, but those discussions have recently been paused." Bloomberg also added that Apple is discussing similar plans with other automobile manufacturers.
It is known that Apple has been negotiating with Hyundai Motor Group about the contract manufacturing of the Apple Car, but officially, Apple has not confirmed this. However, Bloomberg reported that after Hyundai Motor Group indirectly acknowledged this and related reports followed, Apple pushed back, leading to the temporary suspension of negotiations.
At present, it is unclear whether or when the negotiations will resume. There are also interpretations that internal disputes exist within Hyundai Motor Group regarding contract manufacturing. Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with Hyundai's situation, said, "There is an internal debate over which brand, Hyundai or Kia, will produce the Apple Car," adding, "If talks resume, it is more likely that the Apple Car will be manufactured at Kia's Georgia plant."
