The protagonist of the 'Good Citizen' is Jang Geumchun (65), who runs a piano academy in Bongam-dong, Masanhwoewon-gu.
Four years ago, while teaching students, Jang met four children growing up under a father suffering from a mental illness.
When Jang first visited the children's home, there was a foul odor due to uncleanliness, and the father was taking medication for his mental illness.
Feeling sorry for them, Jang provided piano lessons to the children, offered food when needed, and accompanied them to the hospital, performing acts of kindness.
With Jang's help, the children study on their own and play instruments in an orchestra, pursuing their dreams.
Jang said, "I hope the children, who did not receive love from their parents, can heal through music and art and grow into children with good character," adding, "I want to help children in blind spots whenever I see them."
A city official said, "Amid recent concerns about child abuse, it is reassuring to have citizens who help children without expecting anything in return," and added, "The city will continue to make efforts to prepare measures for children in blind spots."
