Seong Jang-hyun, Yongsan District Mayor, "Allegations of Hiring Irregularities at Yongsan District Facilities Corporation Are Absolutely Untrue"
On the afternoon of the 4th, Seong District Mayor explained on Facebook, "Recruitment at the corporation occurs as needed under the chairman's responsibility based on internal plans when there are personnel vacancies or new projects. The district office does not intervene or get involved." Regarding repeatedly raised suspicions, he stated, "Since 2017, multiple external investigations and audits have found no issues," and added, "It is misleadingly known that unfair hiring is widespread at the former corporation due to unilateral claims by certain groups."
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seong Jang-hyun, mayor of Yongsan-gu, expressed his position on allegations related to the recruitment of the district facility management corporation (hereinafter referred to as the Corporation) through Facebook on the afternoon of the 4th.
Mayor Seong said, "At a time when the entire nation is suffering from the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), I sincerely apologize for causing concern to the residents due to allegations related to the Corporation's recruitment," and added, "The allegations claimed by the Justice Party Seoul City Branch and Yongsan Citizens' Solidarity are absolutely not true."
He also emphasized, "Recruitment of personnel at the Corporation is conducted as needed under the responsibility of the chairman based on internal plans when there are vacancies or new projects within the Corporation," and "The district office does not intervene or get involved in this process."
Furthermore, he mentioned, "Regarding the repeatedly raised allegations so far, external investigations and audits have been conducted several times since 2017, but no issues were found," and expressed deep regret that "due to unilateral claims by certain groups, it has been perceived as if unfair recruitment is widespread in the district Corporation."
He added, "I hope that all remaining suspicions will be resolved through this opportunity. Please stop the outdated political malpractice that wounds the administration and the hearts of the residents immediately."
The Justice Party Seoul City Branch and Yongsan Citizens' Solidarity filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on the 29th of last month against Mayor Seong on charges including abuse of authority and violation of the Act on the Fairness of Recruitment Procedures.
