View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] On the 4th, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced the promotion and appointment of Lee Hyung-il (50), Director General of the Economic Policy Bureau, as the new Vice Minister (Director General level). Ryu Sang-min (53), Director General of the Foreign Economic Bureau, was appointed as the Head of the National Economic Advisory Council Support Group.
This personnel change follows the recent moves of former Vice Minister Bang Ki-seon to become a Standing Director at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and former Head of the National Economic Advisory Council Support Group Lee Jong-wook to the position of Director General of the Planning and Coordination Office at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The new Vice Minister Lee graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Economics, earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University, and entered the ministry through the 36th Administrative Examination. He has since served as ▲Director of Economic Education and Public Relations at the Ministry of Economy and Finance ▲Administrative Officer in the Economic and Financial Secretary Office of the Presidential Secretariat ▲Head of the Comprehensive Policy Division, Economic Analysis Division, and Capital Market Division at the Ministry of Economy and Finance ▲Senior Advisor at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) in the United States ▲Senior Administrative Officer in the Economic Policy Secretary Office of the Presidential Secretariat ▲and Director General of the Economic Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The new Head of the Support Group, Ryu, graduated from Seoul National University with degrees in Economics and completed a master's course in Public Administration, earned a Master of Laws from American University in the United States, and entered the ministry through the 35th Administrative Examination. He has served as ▲Financial Attach? at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States ▲Agenda Planning Division Chief for the G20 Summit Preparation Committee ▲Head of Cooperation, Foreign Exchange System, and International Organization Divisions at the Ministry of Economy and Finance ▲Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General in Los Angeles ▲Senior Administrative Officer in the Economic Policy Secretary Office of the Presidential Secretariat ▲and Budget Review Officer for Welfare and Safety, as well as Director General of the Foreign Economic Bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Along with these appointments, the Ministry of Economy and Finance also made director general-level personnel changes. Kim Byung-hwan (50, 37th Administrative Examination), Head of the Innovation Growth Promotion Team, was appointed Director General of the Economic Policy Bureau; Park Il-young (53, 36th Administrative Examination), Director General of the Development Finance Bureau, was appointed Director General of the Foreign Economic Bureau; Lee Jong-hwa (53, 37th Administrative Examination), Policy Support Officer of the Income-led Growth Promotion Team, was appointed Director General of the Development Finance Bureau; and Jo Man-hee was appointed Head of the Income-led Growth Promotion Team.
