[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) is implementing special cleaning measures during the Lunar New Year holiday period to ensure a pleasant environment, including intensified garbage collection before the holiday, operation of a cleaning situation room during the holiday, and a thorough cleanup after the holiday.
The special cleaning measures, carried out over eight days from the 8th to the 15th, focus on preventing the accumulation of household waste (general waste, food waste, recyclables) during the holiday period and ensuring prompt collection.
Seongbuk-gu places primary emphasis on operating the 'Cleaning Situation Room.'
The Cleaning Situation Room will operate for four days from 9 a.m. on the 11th to 6 p.m. on the 14th.
Eight employees from the Cleaning Administration Department will be on standby in pairs to monitor the smooth operation of the special collection system, respond promptly to cleaning complaints, and minimize inconvenience to residents.
A three-stage special collection system will also be operated.
The first stage takes place before the Lunar New Year holiday (8th to 10th). During this period, the focus is on informing residents about garbage disposal days by region during the holiday and promptly resolving garbage-related complaints.
To this end, the district distributes 20,000 notices advising residents to refrain from disposing of garbage during the holiday and provides information through the Seongbuk-gu website and the newsletter ‘Seongbuk Sori.’ Regular announcements are also made in cooperation with representatives of apartment residents.
All cleaning personnel and equipment will be mobilized to collect disposed household waste at once, aiming to create clean alleys during the Lunar New Year holiday period.
The second stage operates during the Lunar New Year holiday (11th to 14th). The core of this period is the 'Rapid Response Task Force.' Based on daily patrol results by the Cleaning Situation Room staff and cleaning complaints, the Rapid Response Task Force responds swiftly. The task force focuses on cleaning vulnerable areas frequently used by many residents, such as public restrooms, and strengthens patrol activities.
The third stage operates after the Lunar New Year holiday (15th to 17th). It focuses on the mass collection of household waste accumulated during the holiday. Rapid collection by contracted agencies and special patrols against illegal dumping by local community centers will be conducted simultaneously. Autonomous cleaning by residents in each neighborhood and a large-scale cleanup will also be carried out.
