Mexico Approves Emergency Use of Russian Vaccine 'Sputnik V'
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Mexico has approved the emergency use of Russia's COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik V.
On the 2nd (local time), according to foreign media including AP News, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, Mexico's Deputy Health Minister, announced this in the afternoon and said, "400,000 doses are expected to arrive this month."
Sputnik V is the third COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Mexican government, following Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
As of this day, Mexico's cumulative confirmed cases stand at 1,874,092, with 159,533 deaths, ranking third in the world for the number of deaths.
Mexico began administering the Pfizer vaccine at the end of last year, but has been experiencing a vaccine shortage due to insufficient supply. Additionally, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador tested positive on the 24th of last month, raising the alert.
