Korea GM Sells Total of 36,126 Units in January... 76% Increase Compared to Same Month Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Korea GM announced on the 1st that it sold a total of 36,126 units in January. This figure represents a 76.4% increase compared to the same month last year.
According to Korea GM, domestic sales increased by 19.7% year-on-year to 6,106 units, while exports rose by 95.2% to 30,020 units. The company explained that both domestic sales and exports recorded simultaneous growth for two consecutive months following December.
The domestic sales performance was driven by the Chevrolet Spark and the sport utility vehicle (SUV) Trailblazer. The Chevrolet Spark recorded the highest sales with a total of 2,276 units sold in January, and the Trailblazer followed in second place with 1,189 units sold.
Other models such as the Chevrolet Colorado (499 units) and Chevrolet Equinox (303 units) followed, while the Damas (441 units) and Labo (503 units) also showed strong late-stage growth with increases of 94% and 130% year-on-year, respectively. Production of the Damas and Labo is scheduled to end in the first quarter of this year.
