Gwangju Office of Education Announces Personnel Changes for 2,677 Teachers
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education conducted a regular personnel reshuffle for 2,677 educational public officials as of March 1 this year.
According to the city education office on the 1st, regular personnel changes were made for 179 principals, vice principals, and educational specialists in kindergartens, elementary, middle, and special schools (17 in kindergarten, 77 in elementary, 85 in middle schools), and 2,498 teachers (67 in kindergarten, 1,329 in elementary, 1,102 in middle schools).
This personnel reshuffle focused on ensuring safe schools in response to COVID-19 and strengthening remote education.
In particular, to ensure substantial operation of tasks related to climate crisis response and school violence review, the number of specialized staff in charge of related duties was expanded, and it is expected that professional on-site support in these areas will be provided.
Key personnel appointments include Kim Deuk-ryong, principal of Gwangju Science High School, as director of the Gwangju Creative Convergence Education Institute; Kang Gu, principal of Jangdeok Middle School, as director of the Gwangju Student Education Institute; Jang Sang-min, head of the Elementary Education Support Division at the Eastern Education Support Office, as head of the Policy Planning Division at the city education office; Kim Hyung-tae, principal of Bitgoeul High School, as head of the Democratic Citizenship Education Division; Baek Ki-sang, principal of Gwangju Jeil High School, as head of the Secondary Education Division; and Lee Byung-kwan, vice principal of Gwangju Physical Education Middle School, as head of the Physical Education and Arts Convergence Education Division.
Meanwhile, starting from March 1, the list of teachers' regular personnel changes will be disclosed through the internal work system in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act.

Lee Seung-oh, director of the Education Bureau at the city education office, said, “We focused on placing qualified personnel with experience and determination in the right positions to operate safe schools and student-centered self-designed curricula effectively amid the COVID-19 situation.” He added, “In particular, with the belief that working together can change the future, we carried out personnel changes so that each institution actively reflects the changes of the times and actively supports school sites.”
