Police Launch 'Comprehensive Security Activities' Ahead of Lunar New Year... Preparing for Major Crimes and COVID-19 Prevention
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The police have launched special security activities to prevent major crimes expected during the Lunar New Year holiday and to support COVID-19 related quarantine measures.
The National Police Agency announced that it will carry out the 'Comprehensive Security Activities for the Lunar New Year Holiday' for two weeks from the 1st to the 14th.
First, the police will strengthen their response and management related to COVID-19. In the event of a group infection, a rapid response team will be deployed to confirm locations and support urgent epidemiological investigations. Joint crackdowns on illegal operations of entertainment establishments will be conducted with local governments, and quarantine activities such as easing congestion at highway rest areas will also be supported.
Visible activities will also be carried out to strengthen proactive prevention and protection of socially vulnerable groups. Vulnerabilities in convenience stores and financial institutions will be diagnosed to implement customized prevention activities, and monitoring of domestic violence and child abuse will be conducted along with thorough initial response and follow-up management. The police will actively respond to crimes disrupting daily life such as burglary and theft, possession of stolen goods, violent violations of quarantine rules, and neighborhood violence.
During this period, management to ensure traffic safety and smooth flow will be strengthened. Congested areas where demand for holiday preparations is concentrated, such as traditional markets and large marts, will be managed, and enforcement will focus on major violations such as driving on highway shoulders and drunk driving. The police plan to deploy 42 unmarked patrol cars based at 268 highway traffic observation stations for enforcement.
