[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] CU is launching a variety of unique products to help overcome the 'corona blues' and share heartfelt moments with each other in celebration of Valentine's Day, along with a safe gift promotion.
CU announced on the 1st that it has prepared a total of over 100 products under the concept of 'Happy Sunday to Enjoy with Family,' targeting Valentine's Day, which immediately follows the Lunar New Year holiday this year. These include collaborative products with Malpyo Shoe Polish and Seoul Land's Earth-themed items.
CU's exclusive Malpyo Shoe Polish collaboration products (ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 KRW) come in six varieties. They feature popular items such as Ghana chocolate, Binch, choco cookies, crunch, and Oreo, all packaged in various designs inspired by Malpyo Shoe Polish. The giant Malpyo Shoe Polish pack and Malpyo Choco Bean are fun products composed of assorted items inside actual shoe polish tin cases. The Malpyo pouch and eco bag use reusable packaging materials, adding collectible value. The Malpyo planning pack includes pun stickers based on the Malpyo brand.
The two Seoul Land Earth collaboration products (15,000 KRW and 20,000 KRW) mark the first partnership between a convenience store and a theme park. The dome-shaped packaging, modeled after Seoul Land's iconic Earth symbol, is filled with chocolates, candies, cookies, and more, and includes Seoul Land day and night discount coupons (for two people) as well as glow-in-the-dark bracelets.
The enclosed discount coupons feature information such as names and photos of long-term missing children, as part of a missing children search campaign conducted by BGF Retail and the Child Rights Protection Agency, with Seoul Land also participating.
CU is also selling nostalgic retro products in big sizes, including the Giant Danjjak (5,500 KRW), Giant Dice Pop (6,900 KRW), and Giant Kkoebat (7,000 KRW, a combination of Kkoedori and Batdureong). Additionally, two miniature CU carts in paper cup size (9,000 KRW and 17,000 KRW) and water purifier toy candies (3,000 KRW) are available.
During the recent Pepero Day, CU's collaborative products with Gom Pyo, BYC, and Wemakeprice O were extremely popular, achieving sales rates exceeding 90%. These products significantly boosted overall event sales by up to 22% compared to the previous year, playing a key role in driving revenue.
To enable couples and families to enjoy home drinking, CU's signature wine set 'mmm!' will be sold starting from the 8th of this month through the Pocket CU Wine Shop app. The set includes mmm! wine, wine glasses, and Wrapping Cow crackers, and is limited to 500 units.
With the growing number of pet owners, CU has also introduced two types of pet owner packs (each 7,500 KRW) for dogs and cats, which include delicious snacks and toys for pets to enjoy Valentine's Day together.
To ensure safe gift exchanges amid social distancing measures, CU has expanded its purchasing channels. CU delivery services are available through Yogiyo, Wemakeprice O, Owin, and Naver, and from the 9th to the 15th of this month, a 3,000 KRW discount is offered on Wemakeprice O delivery orders over 10,000 KRW.
CU-exclusive product coupons are also available on KakaoTalk Gift, allowing users to send gifts anytime and anywhere via mobile. Valentine's Day event products sent through CU Post parcel service are offered at a uniform price of 2,500 KRW.
Customers paying for 10 differentiated CU products such as Malpyo chocolate with Samsung Card or NongHyup Card, or seven Ferrero Rocher planning products with BC Card or Naver Pay, can receive a 50% discount up to a maximum of 11,000 KRW per transaction.
