Operation of the Jongno-gu Crisis Family Integrated Support Center
From the 1st, support will be provided to protect residents facing difficulties such as domestic violence and abuse and to establish healthy family functions... Center director, integrated case managers, abuse prevention police officers, and professional counselors will be working
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (District Mayor Kim Young-jong) has established the 'Jongno-gu Crisis Family Integrated Support Center' on the 7th floor of the temporary district office building (Daerim Building, Jongno 1-gil 36) and began full-scale operations from the 1st.
This is to build a safety net within the local community for crisis households experiencing issues such as domestic violence or abuse and to help resolve fundamental problems within families.
According to a survey by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, cases of domestic violence and abuse have shown a continuous increase, rising from 16,785 cases in 2013 to 40,828 in 2015, and 45,619 in 2016.
Since 2016, abuse prevention police officers have been assigned to each police station to strengthen victim protection and prevent recurrence, but it remains difficult to address complex domestic issues beyond violence.
Accordingly, Jongno-gu aims to establish a cooperative system with Jongno Police Station and Hyehwa Police Station through the opening of this center, to discover crisis families in welfare blind spots and provide customized integrated welfare services for them.
The staff consists of six members, including the center director (Head of the Welfare Policy Division’s Hope Welfare Support Team), a professional integrated case manager, abuse prevention police officers, and professional counselors.
They conduct initial consultations and joint visits for households suspected or confirmed to have experienced domestic violence or abuse within the community.
Considering that most domestic violence report households face not only violence but also economic, psychological, or alcohol-related issues, the center plans to support these households with various welfare resources such as legal, economic, medical, and emotional assistance.
Furthermore, by linking with specialized institutions such as domestic violence counseling centers, child protection agencies, and elder protection agencies, the center strives to resolve problems and prevent recurrence.
The center’s opening ceremony was held on January 29. In compliance with social distancing measures, a minimal number of people, including Kim Young-jong, Mayor of Jongno-gu, and representatives from the cooperating institutions of the Crisis Family Integrated Support Center?Jongno Police Station (Chief Lee Gyu-hwan) and Hyehwa Police Station (Chief Mo Sang-myo)?gathered to tour the center together.
