"'Pfizer Vaccine' Post-Vaccination Deaths Not Related," EMA Concludes Safety Assessment
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has stated that there is no link between Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine and recently reported deaths, and no new side effects have been identified.
On the 29th (local time), the EMA concluded this after evaluating the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine jointly developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German biotech company BioNTech. The EMA reported that there was no connection between deaths among the elderly and the Pfizer vaccine, and that these cases do not raise safety concerns. The Pfizer vaccine has been in use in European Union (EU) countries since the end of last month.
In this evaluation, the EMA analyzed death cases following vaccination by comparing mortality rates of patients with other underlying conditions. The EMA explained that the data collected during the Pfizer vaccination process does not compromise existing safety and that no new side effects were found.
