View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 29th the education and training courses and operating institutions for acquiring process evaluation-type national technical qualifications this year.
The process evaluation type is a system introduced in 2015 that requires attending practical, field-oriented classes to obtain national technical certificates such as the Information Processing Engineer.
This differs from the existing examination-type qualifications, where certificates could be obtained by only taking a written test.
The number of certificate holders was 51 in 2015 but surged to 6,174 last year.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, those hired are quickly adapting to work on-site, receiving positive evaluations from both those employed after completing the training courses and companies.
The employment rate of those who completed the process evaluation-type education is 42.2%, higher than the 25.3% of those who completed the examination-type, and the employment period is 65 days, shorter than the 80 days for the examination-type.
This year, 451 institutions and 1,357 courses were designated for process evaluation-type qualification education and training. New selections include Level 1 Vocational Counselor, Furniture Manufacturing Industrial Engineer, and Industrial Safety Industrial Engineer.
It has also expanded into public education. The education and training courses increased by 24.3% in formal educational institutions such as vocational high schools, Polytechnics, junior colleges, and four-year universities. This strengthens the link between vocational education and training/employment.
Song Hongseok, Director of the Vocational Competency Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, said, "Through the process evaluation-type qualifications, which are showing good results in employment rates and job satisfaction, we will expand support so that young people can obtain quality jobs and companies can hire field-customized talents."
