Jeonnam Postal Service Office Enters 'Special Communication' Period for Lunar New Year Mail Delivery
Emergency Duty from the 1st to the 6th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Regional Post Office is launching a special postal traffic operation for the Lunar New Year holiday.
On the 26th, according to the Jeonnam Post Office (Director Jeong Changrim), the period from the 1st to the 16th of next month has been designated as the 'Lunar New Year Holiday Special Postal Traffic Period,' and an emergency work system will be implemented to ensure safe delivery.
This Lunar New Year is expected to face difficulties due to the overlap of increased holiday parcel volumes and COVID-19.
Accordingly, personnel for sorting work will be increased, and through thorough COVID-19 quarantine activities and winter safety accident prevention activities, efforts will be made to create a safe working environment for postal workers and to provide smooth postal services to the public.
The Postal Service Headquarters will operate 33 parcel sorting machines at 25 nationwide concentration centers at maximum capacity during the special traffic period and increase the number of transport vehicles by 2,700.
Additionally, about 28,000 temporary workers needed for sorting and other tasks will be added, and approximately 4.2 billion KRW will be invested to support the safety and welfare of delivery and sorting personnel.
Since the last Chuseok holiday, as the social distancing level for COVID-19 was raised and parcel volumes increased, the Postal Service Headquarters has been continuously increasing sorting personnel who are deployed year-round to reduce the workload of delivery personnel.
In preparation for an expected increase in gift parcels due to COVID-19 special quarantine measures such as refraining from visiting hometowns and relatives, large-volume shipping companies have been requested to disperse shipments, and preparations are in place to immediately deploy additional personnel and equipment if necessary.
Safety inspections of postal machines, electrical facilities, and vehicles have also been completed in advance according to safety manuals.
For motorcycle delivery zones, delivery work will end before sunset, and delivery will be suspended during severe weather conditions such as cold waves and heavy snow. Measures such as appropriate loading of motorcycles and securing rest times during vehicle operation will be implemented to strengthen safety accident prevention activities for postal workers.
Furthermore, disinfection of facilities related to COVID-19 will be intensified, and preventive activities such as continuous temperature checks and mask-wearing for entrants will be maintained.
During delivery, to ensure public safety, contact will be minimized through non-face-to-face delivery with advance notification messages, and delivery results will be sent to customers without fail to prevent inconvenience.
In addition, to ensure that Lunar New Year gift parcels are delivered safely and on time, the following are requested: ▲ Use of ice packs for packaging seafood and meat ▲ Use of paper boxes instead of non-woven fabric, styrofoam, or bojagi wrapping ▲ Accurate writing of postal codes, addresses, and inclusion of a contactable phone number ▲ Submission of parcel mail to post offices preferably before January 29.
