Seoul City to Support 90% of Installation Costs for Air Pollution Prevention Facilities in Small Businesses... Applications Open on the 27th
Support for Installation Costs of Air Pollution Prevention Facilities in Stamping and Plating Plants
Secured 10.1 Billion Won Budget This Year, Significantly Expanded Support Targets
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 26th that it is accepting applications this year for the ‘Small-scale Business Facility Installation Support Project,’ which supports 90% of the installation costs for pollution prevention facilities targeting small-scale air pollutant emission businesses such as painting/plating facilities and commercial boilers.
There are a total of 2,021 air pollutant emission businesses located in Seoul. Among them, small-scale businesses (categories 4~5) account for 1,979 sites, or 98% of the total, with commercial boilers, painting, and plating being the main types of emission facilities.
The Small-scale Business Facility Support Project provides support tailored to the type and capacity of air pollutant emission facilities. For painting and plating facilities, it supports the installation of prevention facilities using filtration, absorption, or adsorption methods, and for commercial boilers, it supports the installation of low-NOx burners.
Seoul City supported 138 sites in 2019 and 111 sites in 2020 through this prevention facility support project. An analysis of the air pollutant reduction effects at 48 businesses that replaced their prevention facilities showed a significant decrease of 69.3% in dust and 50.5% in total hydrocarbons after the replacement.
Starting this year, Seoul City has secured a total budget of 10.1 billion KRW to greatly expand the support targets. By integrating and operating the low-NOx burner support project, which was implemented until last year, the support targets have been expanded from small and medium enterprises to include non-profit corporations, organizations, and apartment complexes. Additionally, absorption-type cooling/heating water facilities, newly classified as emission facilities, are also eligible for support.
If selected for the Small-scale Business Facility Installation Support Project, applicants can receive subsidies covering 90% of the installation costs excluding VAT. Subsidies for prevention facilities range from a maximum of 270 million KRW to 720 million KRW depending on the pollutant type, and up to 15.2 million KRW for low-NOx burners.
Seoul City, together with the Seoul Green Environment Support Center, conducts on-site monitoring of businesses that have replaced their prevention facilities. If there are operational issues, technical support from experts is available.
Applications can be submitted from the 27th to the environmental department of the local district office where the business is located, along with the application form and related documents. Businesses that have installed prevention facilities within the last three years or received government budget support within the last five years are excluded from support.

Yoon Jae-sam, Director of the Air Policy Division of Seoul City, said, “The Small-scale Business Facility Installation Support Project has the effect of significantly reducing air pollutant emissions by replacing old prevention facilities of small businesses with minimal burden,” and added, “We ask for active participation from business owners for the improvement of Seoul’s air quality and the health of its citizens.”
