31 Cumulative Confirmed Cases Related to TCS International School
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] COVID-19 cases are continuously emerging at TCS Ace International School, an unlicensed educational facility affiliated with a religious organization that is in a blind spot of quarantine measures.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 26th, among the 12 new confirmed cases reported the previous day, 8 are related to TCS International School.
These individuals are students and teachers of TCS International School.
The infections originating from TCS International School have been occurring daily since the index case, Gwangju case number 1479, on the 23rd.
By day, there were 15 cases on the 23rd, 8 on the 24th, and 8 on the 25th, making a cumulative total of 31 confirmed cases.
During the epidemiological investigation of Gwangju case number 1479, quarantine authorities discovered that this confirmed case was a member of Gwangju Bitnaeri Church located on the 2nd floor of the same building, and subsequently identified the existence of TCS International School, an unlicensed dormitory-type educational facility on the 1st floor of the building.
This educational facility is operated by the IM Mission aiming to train missionaries, and since it is a homeschooling format, it was revealed that students and teachers lived together in a dormitory space separately arranged on the 3rd floor where they could eat and sleep.
Quarantine authorities believe that the widespread infections originating from TCS International School spread during the dormitory living process, which is vulnerable to quarantine measures.
On the previous day, one additional confirmed case (Gwangju case number 1519) related to Gwangju case number 1516, whose infection route is unknown, was also reported.
