HiteJinro Launches Premium Wine 'Ipsus' from Matcei Winery
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] HiteJinro announced on the 24th that it will introduce 'Ipsus,' the top-tier wine from the 600-year-old Italian winery 'Mazzei,' to the domestic market for the first time.
Ipsus is a new wine product launched by Mazzei Winery, which has been producing wine for 25 generations over six centuries since 1435. The Mazzei family is a prestigious wine house in Tuscany, known for winning the perfect score of 3 glasses 34 times from Italy's renowned wine rating 'Gambero Rosso,' holding the record for the most awards in the Tuscany region. They are also known as the 'father of Chianti wine' for being the first to use the name 'Chianti wine.' The name Ipsus, meaning 'self' in Latin, expresses confidence from the name itself and boasts the reputation of a winery that produces premium wines.
Ipsus is a single vineyard wine produced in an eco-friendly manner from the Il Caggio vineyard owned by Mazzei Winery. The Il Caggio vineyard is located at an altitude of 320 to 350 meters above sea level, with soil composed of limestone and clay, producing top-quality Sangiovese grapes. To standardize the taste of grapes that vary according to the characteristics of the soil, the vineyard is divided into 18 zones for harvesting, followed by separate fermentation in oak and steel barrels, and then aged for about 32 months.
Ipsus is a 2015 vintage red wine made from 100% Sangiovese, the representative Italian grape variety, and pairs well with beef dishes. It received a score of 98 points from famous wine critic James Suckling and 96 points from the American wine magazine Wine Spectator. Ipsus will be sold through Hyundai Department Store (Mokdong Branch, Cheonho Branch, Pangyo Branch), Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo Branch, and the wine shop inside Shinsegae Department Store Main Branch.
