On the 23rd (Korea time), at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club (par 72, 7,583 yards) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), during the second day of the European Tour's premium match, the 'Rolex Series Round 1' Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship (total prize money $8 million), Hatton shot 5 under par over 13 holes to take the top spot on the leaderboard at 12 under par. 'Number 6' Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland) is tied for 2nd place at 7 under par, and as many as 10 players including Tommy Fleetwood (England) are tied for 6th place at 6 under par, engaging in a chase.
Hatton started from 2nd place, one stroke behind the leader, and combined one eagle, four birdies, and one bogey. After an eagle on the 2nd hole (par 5) and a bogey on the 3rd hole (par 4) to catch his breath briefly, he fired four consecutive birdies from the 7th to the 10th holes. After completing the 13th hole (par 4), he was unable to finish the round due to sunset. Leading by 5 strokes, he is on track for his 6th European Tour win, three months after winning the BMW PGA Championship last October. He cheered, saying, "My putting was good," and "I'm in a good position to aim for the win."
