GS25 Supports 1,000 Lunchboxes for Vulnerable Youth
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] GS25, a convenience store operated by GS Retail, announced on the 19th that it delivered 1,000 lunchboxes to underprivileged youth supported by the Youth Happiness Foundation.
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), restaurants have closed or operated with restrictions, causing difficulties for the Youth Happiness Foundation's meal service project for vulnerable youth. GS25 stepped in to provide support.
Unlike the previous method of directly providing lunchboxes, GS25 introduced a new approach this time by creating and distributing lunchbox mobile gift certificates. This was to address the difficulty of directly delivering lunchboxes due to COVID-19 and to overcome the limitations of the previous uniform menu support method.
Youth who received the GS25 lunchbox mobile gift certificates can now reliably obtain high-quality lunchboxes through GS25 stores open nearly 24 hours a day and can choose their preferred lunchbox menu. GS25 fully covered the cost of producing the lunchbox mobile gift certificates provided to the underprivileged youth.
GS25 plans to take the lead in various activities that protect and support socially vulnerable groups by strengthening its social public functions, such as building nationwide GS25 stores into a sharing platform.
Kim Si-yeon, head of social contribution at GS Retail, said, "After considering better donation methods that reflect the situations and perspectives of the recipients rather than the donors, we prepared these lunchbox mobile gift certificates. We plan to actively utilize them in various social contribution activities targeting youth who are familiar with mobile environments."
