Ministry of SMEs and Startups to Relocate to Sejong City by August
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will relocate from Daejeon to Sejong by August.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 15th that it received presidential approval for the "Change in the Relocation Plan of Central Administrative Agencies" and published it in the official gazette.
The relocation target in Sejong City is 499 staff members belonging to the headquarters of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Once the relocation is completed by August, 15,601 government officials from 23 central administrative agencies and 22 affiliated organizations (as of June 30, 2020) will be working in Sejong City.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups, which was promoted from a vice-ministerial external agency to a ministerial-level department in July 2017, decided to relocate its headquarters from the Government Complex Daejeon to Sejong City due to the expansion of its organizational size and difficulties in coordination with other ministries. It submitted a letter of intent to relocate to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in October last year. Accordingly, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety proceeded with the relocation procedures, including public hearings and consultations with related agencies, in accordance with the "Happy City Act."
