"Strengthening Planned Reporting and Expanding Latest Facilities" LG HelloVision's Local Channel 'Local Newsroom' Strategy
[Asia Economy Reporter Joesulgina] LG HelloVision announced on the 12th that it will promote the ‘2021 Local Newsroom’ strategy based on a digital newsroom that combines planned reporting focused on three major reporting themes and the latest studio facilities to deliver the best cable TV local news.
Through this, LG HelloVision plans to accelerate the digital transformation of local channel news and lead regional revitalization amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The three major reporting themes for this year are ▲ revitalization of the local economy centered on small business owners ▲ spotlight on local New Deal policies and specialized industries ▲ overcoming regional extinction and balanced development.
LG HelloVision revamped its studio by fully adopting the latest equipment. Ultra-high-definition LED signage was installed in a curved shape, creating a large media wall measuring 10.2 meters wide. The news desk was also redesigned with a futuristic design and enlarged in size. Investment in studio facilities for regional media bureaus such as Incheon and Busan is also under consideration.
The installed signage is LG Electronics’ latest product capable of 4K and FHD, and it is the first time it has been applied to a broadcasting studio. The pixel pitch of 1.25mm, which is the distance between elements, is narrow, allowing clear provision of video and graphic information. This studio facility investment is interpreted as a stepping stone to strengthen the news format. The high-definition large LED screen will be fully utilized to expand the integration of infographics and real-time video connections.
Along with this, LG HelloVision will newly introduce the infographic-based news corner ‘Hello TV Briefing.’ Viewers will be able to easily and immersively access difficult local issues such as major local government policies through graphics displayed on the large screen. The ‘Local Issues Seen Through Big Data’ corner, which selects regional issues based on big data and presents them in graphic form at a glance, will also be enhanced.
Starting with the local issue discussion program ‘Hello Issue Talk,’ the number of video appearances by local community members will increase in various situations such as real-time news and disaster broadcasts. Untact (contactless) debates are also being planned. The policy is to continue solution journalism that seeks solutions to local issues together with local governments and residents.
As a core strategy for systematic planned reporting, the ‘three major reporting themes’ have been declared. Within the broad framework of regional revitalization, the themes selected are revitalization of the local economy centered on small business owners, spotlight on local New Deal policies and specialized industries, and overcoming regional extinction and balanced development, with annual planned reporting to follow.
To revitalize the local economy, reporting linked to the year-round campaign ‘Dongnegage Hamkkegage’ (Neighborhood Store, Together Store), which focuses on revitalizing the local economy centered on small business owners, will be conducted. Hidden small business owners across the country will be spotlighted, and practical support will continue through real-time advertisements.
Support will also be provided for local New Deal policies and the development of specialized industries by region. Through news and programs, the future growth engines and values of the regions where people live will be communicated, aligning with government-level regional development policies.
Holiday special news will focus on overcoming regional extinction and balanced development, continuing quarterly planned reporting. Amid ongoing concerns about regional extinction due to continuous population decline, urban regeneration projects will be highlighted, and ways to induce population inflow will be considered together.
