The Cause of Death Is Presumed to Be Suicide
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] A Capitol Police officer who resisted the storming of the U.S. Capitol has died, increasing the number of police deaths related to the incident to two.
According to U.S. media on the 10th (local time), Capitol Police officer Howard Libengood passed away that morning.
The Capitol Police union stated in a press release that Libengood confronted the rioters who stormed the Capitol, but did not disclose detailed information about the cause of his death.
Media reports suggest that Libengood, who was responsible for the Senate area, appears to have died by suicide.
Gus Papadensios, chairman of the Capitol Police union, expressed sorrow, saying, "Today is a tragic day. All Capitol Police officers prioritized the safety of others over their own."
