The farm raises about 20,000 ducks, and during the pre-shipment inspection process by the livestock quarantine agency, H5 type AI antigen was detected in the ducks at the farm. Currently, detailed testing is underway, and the determination of whether it is highly pathogenic is expected to be available as soon as one day later.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters is controlling access to the farm and conducting an epidemiological investigation. Quarantine measures such as movement restrictions, surveillance, and inspections have been implemented for farms within a 10 km radius. Following a confirmed case at a duck farm in Jinju, Gyeongnam the previous day, and now a suspected case in Geochang, a temporary movement suspension order has been issued for poultry farms, livestock facilities (slaughterhouses, feed factories), and livestock vehicles in the Gyeongnam region.
The order also applies to poultry farms, livestock facilities, and livestock vehicles belonging to the integrated business operator associated with the farm where the suspected case occurred. The period is 48 hours from 2 a.m. on the day of the announcement until 2 a.m. on the 12th. Vehicles transporting edible eggs are subject to a 24-hour restriction until 2 a.m. on the 11th.
During the temporary movement suspension period, the Central Inspection Team (7 teams, 14 members) will be formed to monitor compliance with the order. Comprehensive disinfection will also be conducted for poultry farms, livestock facilities, and migratory bird habitats (including small streams and reservoirs). Violating the movement suspension order may result in imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW according to relevant laws.
