[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] A fire broke out at a substation in Incheon, cutting off electricity supply to about 38,000 households during the morning commute, causing significant inconvenience to residents.
According to the Incheon Fire Headquarters on the 8th, the fire occurred at around 5:58 a.m. at the Korea Electric Power Corporation Sin Bupyeong Substation (power plant) in Galsan-dong, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon. The fire burned the interior of the five-story above ground and one-story underground building and was extinguished in about 50 minutes.
There were no casualties from the fire, but a blackout occurred affecting approximately 38,000 households (estimated by KEPCO) in Galsan-dong and Samsan-dong in Bupyeong-gu, and Hyoseong-dong and Jakjeon-dong in Gyeyang-gu, where electricity is supplied from the substation.
Especially as a cold wave warning was in effect in Incheon, the blackout during the morning commute caused great inconvenience to residents. Additionally, residents trapped inside elevators in 13 apartment complexes were rescued by the 119 rescue team dispatched after receiving reports.
KEPCO resumed electricity supply sequentially from 7:45 a.m. on the same day, about 1 hour and 40 minutes after the blackout, by substituting power supply from other substations.
