According to major foreign media on the day, Kate O'Brien, WHO's Immunization Director, stated at a WHO social media (SNS) event, "The COVAX facility can deliver more than 2 billion doses of vaccines," adding, "Distribution is scheduled to begin between late January and mid-February."
The COVAX facility is an international project organization for the joint purchase and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, jointly operated by the World Health Organization (WHO), GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). This organization aims to supply vaccines to 20% of the global population, focusing on low-income countries, by the end of this year.
O'Brien added, "Approximately 7 billion USD (7.64 trillion KRW) is needed to supply sufficient vaccines by the end of this year," and "COVAX has already raised about 6 billion USD (6.55 trillion KRW) of that amount."
