[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Parents are welcoming the active role of Our Neighborhood Care Center Seongbuk Branch No. 2, managed by Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro).
Our Neighborhood Care Center Seongbuk Branch No. 2 opened on December 21 last year at 214 Hwarang-ro. Children aged 6 to 12 can freely use the center after school, on specific days, or during gaps between academy classes, providing great support amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Unlike regular care centers, this is a hybrid care center offering various care services such as linking with community care resources, providing dinner, and care during weekday nights and weekends.
Soon, self-directed projects on various themes that children enjoy, including homework guidance, basic learning support, culture, arts, and environment, will also be conducted.
The center can accommodate up to 42 children and operates from 1 PM to 8 PM during the school term, 9 AM to 8 PM during vacations, and 8 AM to 12 PM on Saturdays.
Currently, to respond to care gaps caused by COVID-19, the center is providing emergency care services during vacation hours (9 AM to 8 PM) while complying with social distancing guidelines.
Kim Hye* (37, Seokgwan-dong), whose fifth-grade child uses the emergency care service at Our Neighborhood Care Center Seongbuk Branch No. 2, said, “As COVID-19 has prolonged, life has become more difficult, and I desperately needed a place where I could trust and leave my child. The center run by a public institution has opened its doors and has become a great support like my hometown.”
Seo Hyung* (4th grade, Seokgwan-dong), a child using the center, said, “My mom and dad go to work, and the academies were closed, so I only played games at home, but coming to the center to do art and music with teachers and friends is much more fun,” giving a thumbs up.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “As COVID-19 resurges and prolongs, parents’ demand for reliable care services is increasing. We are making efforts to provide emergency care services that offer reassurance, reliability, and happiness by preparing more diverse programs at Our Neighborhood Care Center Seongbuk Branch No. 2 and strictly adhering to quarantine rules.”
