According to the provincial 119 comprehensive situation room, last winter there was one cold wave advisory and one heavy snow advisory issued, resulting in 17 cases of cold-related illnesses and over 70 incidents of human and property damage, including frozen water facilities.
To address this, the provincial fire headquarters will restrict access to mountainous areas expected to be isolated during heavy snow and conduct regular preventive patrols in cold-vulnerable areas such as homeless clusters and jjokbangchon (small room villages).
A total of 209 fire trucks have been designated as cold wave emergency ambulances to patrol senior centers and fields, responding immediately to cold-related patients and focusing on managing areas at risk of icicle formation.
