Park Jung-ho SKT CEO "AI-Based All-Round Innovation... Must Become a Beloved Big Tech"
[Asia Economy Reporter Joeslgina] Park Jung-ho, Vice Chairman leading SK Telecom, declared that the company will leap forward as a beloved big tech company through artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.
According to SK Telecom, Vice Chairman Park emphasized the all-encompassing spread of AI at the New Year's greeting event held remotely on the afternoon of January 4, the first working day of the new year, stating, “AI must be the foundation for innovation in all company operations and customer-facing services.”
At this event attended by executives and employees of SK ICT family companies such as SK Telecom, SK Broadband, ADT Caps, and 11st, Vice Chairman Park said, “We have already applied AI to many services, but it is not yet perfect,” and added, “We must provide AI-based solutions optimized for customer needs according to the situation.”
Judging that AI will serve as the foundational platform for all future businesses, Vice Chairman Park had already reorganized existing core technology departments around AI in the year-end organizational restructuring.
Additionally, Vice Chairman Park emphasized cross-industry collaboration and openness in the 'post-COVID' era. Having successfully established super-collaboration with global giants such as Amazon last year, he explained, “We cannot become the best with our own story and capabilities alone,” and added, “Open collaboration that boldly cooperates with domestic and international companies across various fields is necessary.”
He did not overlook the social responsibility as a big tech company. A representative example is the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management that SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has emphasized in recent years. Vice Chairman Park mentioned the importance of ESG management, saying, “Let’s explore ways to help those struggling during the pandemic through our ICT capabilities. We must become a big tech company loved by social members and stakeholders.”
He added, “Last year, we responded agilely to the unforeseen ‘black swan’ caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but in 2021, we must be prepared for even more unexpected risks and waves.”
Inside and outside the industry, this year is expected to be the year when SK Telecom’s ongoing initiatives such as mission transformation befitting a big tech company, transition to an intermediate holding company, and subsidiary listings bear full fruit. Vice Chairman Park, who is also CEO of SK Telecom and Vice Chairman of SK Hynix, emphasized 'global technology leadership' and partnerships for it at SK Hynix’s New Year event held on the same day.
