Construction Industry Wages in the First Half of This Year Rise 1.7% Compared to the Second Half of Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Construction industry wages in the first half of this year increased by 1.70% compared to the second half of last year.
The Korea Construction Association announced on the 4th that, as a result of investigating the actual wages in the construction industry to be applied in the first half, the average daily wage across 127 occupations was found to be 230,798 KRW.
This construction wage survey statistics were compiled by investigating and aggregating construction worker wages at 2,000 construction sites nationwide in September last year, and can be applied to the calculation of construction costs starting from the 1st of this month.
This represents a 1.70% (3,851 KRW) increase compared to the second half of last year (226,947 KRW).
By sector, among the 127 occupations, the general construction occupations (91 occupations), which account for the largest proportion, rose by 1.87% compared to the second half of last year, cultural heritage by 1.75%, and nuclear power by 0.68%. The optoelectronics occupation decreased by 0.03%.
The highest wage by sector was in the optoelectronics occupation at 348,470 KRW, and the general construction occupation was the lowest at 219,213 KRW.

A representative of the Korea Construction Association said, “Despite the shortage of domestic construction skilled workers, construction performance increased by 4.4% compared to the first half, and wages in the construction industry slightly rose due to the increase in construction volume.”
