When Watching TV, 'Flat'; When Gaming, 'Curved'... LGD Unveils First 48-inch Bendable CSO

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Display is unveiling a new OLED panel that can be used as a flat screen for watching TV and as a curved screen for gaming for the first time.

LG Display announced on the 3rd that it will unveil the '48-inch Bendable CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) panel,' optimized for gaming, for the first time at 'CES 2021,' the world's largest IT and home appliance exhibition held online on the 11th (local time).

The 48-inch Bendable CSO panel features the advantage of an OLED panel as thin as paper, allowing the screen to be freely bent and flattened up to ,000R (curvature radius of 1000mm).

In other words, it can be used as a flat screen when watching TV and as a curved screen when gaming, providing a uniform viewing distance from the center to the edges of the screen, maximizing visual immersion.

Additionally, this product applies 'CSO' technology, where the OLED panel itself vibrates to produce sound directly from the screen without separate speakers, making it feel as if the characters on the screen are speaking directly, providing vivid realism. When curved, the sound is focused toward the user to maximize the effect.

The 48-inch Bendable CSO applies an ultra-thin film CSO technology, an evolution from the existing CSO, reducing the thickness of the exciter, a component that vibrates the OLED panel to produce sound, from 9mm to 0.6mm, enhancing design completeness.

OLED, a self-emissive display where each pixel emits its own light, offers performance that has recently gained popularity among gaming users, including ▲infinite contrast ratio for clear and three-dimensional image quality ▲0.1ms fast response time ▲120 frames per second refresh rate ▲a wide variable frequency range (40~120Hz) providing smooth, flicker-free images without tearing or stuttering.

LG Display's OLED panels have been recognized as eye-friendly displays by receiving blue light reduction and flicker-free certifications from leading global international certification bodies, considering gamers' eye health.
