Installation of 'Smart Shelter' Blocking Fine Dust at Exit 4 of Heukseok Station, Dongjak-gu
Installation of Open Smart Shelter Equipped with Air Density Control Technology Near Heukseok Station
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) will install a smart shelter near Exit 4 of Heukseok Station by the end of this month.
This project was prepared to protect residents from fine dust and the COVID-19 infectious disease by creating an open-type shelter with air purification functions around the subway station with heavy foot traffic, following the designation of the Heukseok-dong area as the nation’s first intensive fine dust management zone.
The smart shelter measures 3.5m in width and 3.8m in height, equipped with IoT sensors that automatically operate according to changes in external air. It also features heated chairs and wireless charging services for mobile phones, allowing residents to rest in a comfortable environment.
In particular, by forming a large air dome through air density control technology, when operated for more than 30 minutes, it blocks up to 60% of ultrafine dust inflow, providing clean air inside the dome and increasing air density to prevent infectious diseases transmitted by droplets.
Additionally, the district will pilot install fine dust adsorption filters on road railings in two sections by the end of this month: near Heukseok Station to Eunro Elementary School and the densely populated residential area at 27 Heukseok Hangang-ro.
The fine dust adsorption filter consists of a triple filter made of eco-friendly special carbon fiber material that absorbs atmospheric pollutants such as ultrafine dust, volatile organic compounds, and formaldehyde.
Furthermore, it does not use electricity or fossil energy sources, making it effective in creating a clean air environment.
Lee Jeongsim, Director of the Clean Environment Division, said, “Through this project, we expect to protect residents from fine dust and create a pleasant and safe living environment,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to promote fine dust reduction projects reflecting local characteristics.”
