Democratic Party on Extension of Social Distancing Level 2.5: "We Are Simply Sorry... Asking for the Public's Understanding"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 2nd, the Democratic Party of Korea expressed regret over the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' decision to extend the 2.5-level social distancing measures in the Seoul metropolitan area for two more weeks, stating, "We ask for the understanding of the people. We are truly sorry."
Democratic Party spokesperson Kang Seon-woo said in a written statement that day, "This is a decision made by the government after intense discussions and careful consideration."
Spokesperson Kang added, "In the unpredictable crisis of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), finding a delicate balance between quarantine measures and the economy is never easy, but it is a task that must be accomplished."
He continued, "Raising to level 3 is the last resort, affecting about 2.02 million multi-use facilities subject to shutdown across all industries," and said, "We will continuously consider boundaries that society can bear and the economy can recover from."
