Pakistan Purchases 1.2 Million Doses of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Pakistan has decided to purchase 1.2 million doses of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine developed by the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinopharm.
According to foreign media on the 31st, Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistan's Minister of Science and Technology, announced this on Twitter. The 1.2 million doses correspond to a total of 120 vaccinations.
Pakistan plans to provide the vaccine free of charge to frontline workers in the first quarter of next year. Although the daily new COVID-19 cases in Pakistan, which once surged to 7,000, have decreased to the 500 range since August, the numbers have recently been increasing. Cases of the UK variant of COVID-19 have also been detected.
