About 100 people, including citizens, public officials from Gwangju City and its five autonomous districts, soldiers from the 31st Division, and Air Force Combat Flight Group personnel, participated in the snow removal operations, focusing on major roads, bridges, and other icy sections.
Especially on the 30th, considering the large amount of snow that fell all at once, snow removal vehicles operated on major roads every two hours until dawn. During the morning commute, all public officials delayed their start time by one hour, and under the supervision of local Happiness Support Centers, snow was cleared from alleyways.
Mayor Lee Yong-seop also participated in snow removal around Sangmu Citizen Park the previous day and, on the morning of the 31st, cleared snow with citizens on sidewalks and icy sections of side roads near the Chipyeong-dong Administrative Welfare Center.
Additionally, the 31st Division and Air Force Combat Flight Group stationed in the area deployed about 100 soldiers along with snow removal vehicles and rotary equipment to assist with snow clearing in vulnerable areas such as side roads in Dosan-dong and the uphill road in Ochi-dong, providing convenience to residents.
Mayor Lee Yong-seop stated via SNS, “All public officials in Gwangju City are participating in ‘clearing snow on the way to work’ and have entered an emergency duty system, making every effort to ensure citizen safety.” He added, “Since some roads remain icy due to low temperatures, please exercise extra caution when driving or walking, and citizens are encouraged to actively participate in ‘sweeping snow in front of their homes.’”
