Hyangilam Sponsors Yeosu City with 30 Million Won Worth... Practicing Neighborly Love at Year-End
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism's Hyangilam Temple (Head Monk Ji-in) prepared and delivered 5,000 kg of compassionate sharing rice (white rice) and 10,000 KF-94 masks to practice neighborly love during the year-end and New Year holidays, Yeosu City announced on the 31st.
The 5,000 kg of white rice (500 bags of 10 kg each) will be distributed to 300 single elderly and welfare crisis households in Dolsan area and other towns and townships, as well as 40 local children's centers. The 10,000 masks will be evenly distributed to 48 social welfare facilities registered with the association.
Head Monk Ji-in of Hyangilam said, "I am pleased to be able to convey warm hearts to the marginalized and those in difficulty during the year-end and New Year holidays," adding, "As it is a time when all citizens and religious communities must work together for the early end of COVID-19 and economic recovery, we will strive together for wise crisis overcoming."
Yeosu Mayor Kwon Oh-bong said, "Hyangilam is a nationally famous sunrise tourist attraction, but it is regrettable that all events were completely canceled due to COVID-19," and added, "I deeply thank Hyangilam for spreading the spirit of sharing even in difficult times, and we will deliver the warm hearts of the temple monks and believers well to those struggling in life."

Meanwhile, Hyangilam practices compassionate sharing by annually supporting about 100 million won through regular sponsorships to Good World Charity Bank and three other organizations, helping Tibetan refugees, supporting second-generation Koreans in Uzbekistan, digging wells in Myanmar and India under the ASEM initiative, aiding North Korean compatriots, and providing scholarship support projects.
