‘Seoripul Y Festival’ Successfully Concludes
Successful Four-Day Event from December 16-19 Showcasing Diverse Stages Combining Talents and Skills of Young Artists... All Performances Held Online Due to COVID-19, Surpassing 20,000 YouTube Views
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) and the Seocho Cultural Foundation (CEO Dongho Park) announced that the ‘Seoripul Y Festival,’ held in an untact format from the 16th to the 19th to deliver messages of hope and encouragement to young artists, successfully concluded.
Held under the theme “Cheer Up, Young Artists!”, the ‘Seoripul Y Festival’ was a diverse program designed to provide opportunities for young artists to showcase their various talents in Seocho-gu, a city designated as the nation’s only music culture district, and to offer residents the chance to enjoy high-quality cultural performances.
In particular, as the district’s brand festival, the ‘Seoripul Festival,’ was canceled due to COVID-19, young artists facing difficulties from reduced performance opportunities actively participated as key players in various cultural performances and online video conference open tables, recording over 20,000 views on YouTube. This is expected to make the festival even more meaningful for young artists.
On the first day of the festival, the 16th, the KBS KEPCO Music Competition winners’ performance showcased four outstanding performances by aspiring world-class classical artists in piano, cello, clarinet, and vocal music, demonstrating the strength of K-classical music.
On the 17th, performances by the young producing band ‘The Positive’ and the a cappella group ‘Narin’ were held, followed on the 18th by live broadcasts of the classical string ensemble ‘Cresco Ensemble’ and the 2019 JTBC Superband winning team ‘Hoppipolla.’ Despite being a no-audience performance, up to 3,500 viewers connected simultaneously, and the energy radiated by the young artists was vividly conveyed to viewers at home.
On the final day, the 19th, young artists from various genres living in the same area but who had no prior opportunities to interact gathered at the ‘Young Artists Open Table’ to share meaningful discussions and proposals on youth art projects under the theme “Making Art in Seocho.” Conducted online via video conference due to the COVID-19 situation, the ‘Young Artists Open Table’ is expected to serve as a stepping stone to explore the future direction of youth art projects and to promise active artistic activities by local youth.
All performances of the ‘Seoripul Y Festival’ can be rewatched on the Seocho Cultural Foundation’s YouTube channel.
Additionally, after the festival ended, an epilogue-style video titled ‘Goro Na: Gradual Y Project,’ which relays the daily lives of young artists active in Seocho-gu, was also released on YouTube. The hopeful messages shared among young artists through their daily lives are expected to provide renewed hope and comfort to those facing difficulties.
Meanwhile, Seocho-gu and the Seocho Cultural Foundation have been carrying out various projects throughout the year to nurture and support young artists who will lead the future of culture and arts.
These include the Seoripul Youth Art Center, which provides free practice spaces for young artists and discovers content within the Seocho Music Culture District, the nation’s only music culture district; the Seoripul Youth Art Gallery, which hosts exhibitions of young artists discovered through competitions and operates various cultural programs; the Seoripul Youth Art Planning Group, which gathers motivated young artists to strengthen their artistic capabilities and support autonomous cultural and artistic activities; the Seoripul Youth Live, which produces and streams performance videos with selected young artists at local cultural spaces via YouTube; classical relay concerts by young artists at small venues including the music culture district; the Seocho Chamber Music Festival; and the One Person One Instrument project, inviting young artists as specialized instrument instructors. Through these youth artist nurturing and support projects, about 700 young artists participated this year, pursuing their dreams and passion.
