Park Beom-gye "Will Complete Prosecution Reform by Listening to the Voice of the People"
"President Moon Urges 'Stable Cooperative Relationship' with Prosecution"
On Questions About Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, He Says "I Will Comment Later"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Park Beom-gye, the nominee for Minister of Justice, expressed his aspiration to "complete prosecutorial reform while listening to the voices of the people."
On the 30th, Park met with reporters at the National Assembly Members' Office Building and said, "In this serious situation, I feel a heavy responsibility as this inadequate person has been nominated as the Minister of Justice," adding, "I will complete prosecutorial reform while listening to the voices of the people." He emphasized, "Now, legal administration must also be innovated to support the stability of the people's livelihood."
When asked what he thinks is the most important role of the Minister of Justice, Park replied, "The completion of prosecutorial reform is the most important task," and added, "However, I will complete it while listening to the voices of the people."
Regarding how he plans to set the future relationship with the prosecution, he answered, "President Moon Jae-in said that the Ministry of Justice and the prosecution should have a stable cooperative relationship, and through this, prosecutorial reform should be achieved. I understand that this is the guideline given to me."
When asked if a different aspect from the current conflict phase can be expected, he was reserved and said, "There has been a history in my life related to prosecutorial reform from 2003 until now. President Roh Moo-hyun was there, and President Moon is here. I will seek the answer within that."
When asked about the kind of relationship he expects to have with Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, he replied, "I will speak about that later."
When asked whether he will push forward the prosecutorial reform bills recently raised by the ruling party as they are, Park said, "Much prosecutorial reform has already been achieved. For the remaining necessary parts, I think it is necessary to listen to the voices of the people and sufficiently gather opinions from many members of the National Assembly and negotiation groups."
