View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that it has passed the re-designation review as a ‘Women-Friendly City’ by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, which focuses on equal participation of women and men in regional policies and development processes, as well as prioritizing women’s jobs, care, and safety policies.
This result follows the first phase designation in 2011, where 300 citizens led the Women-Friendly City Citizen Participation Group along with 13 civic organizations and public-private cooperation. Through gender governance and operation of region-specific projects, the city passed the review based on achievements over the past five years and the business plan for the next five years.
Under the vision of ‘Gender City Changwon where everyone is happy,’ the city plans to promote the second phase project with five key strategies: ▲ sustainable gender-equal city ▲ city where women work well ▲ 24-hour safe city ▲ creating a harmonious balance between work and life and a happy family-friendly environment ▲ respecting women’s opinions and guaranteeing their participation and roles, to build a continuously developing women-friendly city.

Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon said, “This year, despite the changed daily life due to COVID-19, I thank the citizen participation group and gender governance partners who worked with the city,” adding, “To create a Changwon-style women-friendly city, all city officials will be equipped with gender sensitivity, listen to citizens’ voices, and promote gender-equal policies to realize an inclusive society where all citizens, regardless of gender or age, are happy.”
