Six Countries Including Russia, Canada, and Switzerland Provide $10.5 Million in Food Aid to North Korea
Delivered to Vulnerable Groups Including Infants and Pregnant Women Through the World Food Programme
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Six countries, including Russia, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, and Bulgaria, have provided North Korea with food aid worth 10 million dollars through the World Food Programme (WFP).
According to the North Korea aid status data compiled by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on the 30th, these six countries supported a total of 10.5 million dollars in food aid projects for North Korea this year. The food was delivered to vulnerable groups, including infants and pregnant women in North Korea.
The amounts by country are as follows: Switzerland with 5.22 million dollars, Russia with 3 million dollars, Sweden with 1.04 million dollars, Norway with 680,000 dollars, Canada with 550,000 dollars, and Bulgaria with 5,600 dollars.
Russia previously decided to provide an additional 1 million dollars to the WFP. The Russian Embassy in Pyongyang disclosed on Facebook on the 29th a letter of appreciation and photos received by Alexander Matsegora, the Russian Ambassador to North Korea, from Pravin Agrawal, the head of the WFP Pyongyang office, announcing the 1 million dollar aid to North Korea initiated on the 5th.

Meanwhile, concerns have also been raised about North Korea's crop yield next year. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) under the United Nations recently forecasted in a report that the 'La Ni?a' phenomenon will negatively impact North Korea's crop yield next year. Accordingly, the FAO designated North Korea as a high-risk country for food security.
