Two Railway Workers Die Near Cheonan Station on Gyeongbu Line... Partial Train Service Suspended
[Asia Economy (Cheonan) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] An accident occurred near Cheonan Station on the Gyeongbu Line, resulting in the deaths of two railway workers.
According to Korea Railroad on the 30th, at around 2:55 a.m. that day, a freight train and a Baekhou (fork crane) came into contact on the Gyeongbu Line upbound section between Sojeong-ri and Cheonan, causing a worker to die and partially damaging the overhead wire pole equipment.
The workers were reportedly carrying out excavation of the subgrade and installation of drainage pipes in the drainage pipeline section between Sojeong-ri and Cheonan Station at the time of the accident.
Korea Railroad is currently deploying an emergency restoration team to manage the accident site while conducting recovery work.
However, Korea Railroad explained that due to single-track operation on the down line between Sojeong-ri and Cheonan, some train operations (excluding KTX) will be suspended during the accident management and recovery process. The restoration is expected to be completed around 10 a.m.
