Gwangyang-si Selected as an 'Excellent Institution' in Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced that it was selected as an excellent institution and received an institutional commendation at this year’s ‘Sustainable Transport City Evaluation Awards Ceremony’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the Korea Transport Institute.
The Sustainable Transport City Evaluation is conducted annually in accordance with Article 15 of the “Sustainable Transport and Logistics Development Act,” targeting local governments with populations over 100,000.
The evaluation is based on 32 indicators across three categories?environment, society, and economy (20 indicators for current status evaluation and 12 indicators for policy evaluation)?to assess the current status of sustainable transport cities and transport policies, selecting award-winning cities at the end of the year based on the final evaluation.
This award was earned due to various initiatives such as implementing a 100-won city bus fare for elementary, middle, and high school students to promote public transportation; operating 100-won taxis and call taxis for the disabled to support transportation-vulnerable groups; installing pedestrian-centered diagonal and raised crosswalks; designating children protection zones; improving bicycle lanes; installing new bus stops; winter insulation facilities (including heated seats); and promotional activities to improve the traffic culture index, as well as expanding transport infrastructure.
