Choo Mi-ae: "Silent workers are the main actors... Please remember their sweat and effort"
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae expressed her gratitude to probation officers, correctional bureau staff, and immigration officials.
On the early morning of the 29th, Minister Choo posted on social media (SNS) a photo along with the fact that she visited a probation office late the previous night.
This visit was reportedly made to encourage probation officers and alleviate residents' anxiety in relation to the release of child sex offender Jo Doo-soon. In her post, Minister Choo stated, "Probation officers supervise electronic anklet wearers 24 hours a day and work tirelessly day and night in the field during the cold winter to prevent crimes," adding, "The probation officers at the probation office I visited late at night are no exception."
She continued, "When people think of the Ministry of Justice, they might imagine huge issues like prosecutorial reform or an authoritative and noble image, but the main task of the Ministry of Justice is to respect common sense of the people and maintain their ordinary daily lives."
She also emphasized, "The true protagonists of the Ministry of Justice are the justice staff who quietly work in unseen places such as probation offices, correctional bureaus, and immigration," and urged, "Please remember the countless sweat and efforts made in many unnoticed areas where they do their best."
