Fire Breaks Out at Apartment in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul at Midnight... About 140 Residents Evacuated
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] On the 28th at around 9:07 PM, a fire broke out on the first floor of an apartment in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, causing about 140 residents and others to evacuate.
According to the police and fire department on the 29th, the fire started in a house on the first floor the previous day and was fully extinguished at 10:31 PM, about 1 hour and 20 minutes after the report was received.
An elderly man in his 80s, Mr. A, who lived in the house, reportedly stated, "I was using an electric heater in the room and had piled blankets around it to prevent the heat from dispersing. After falling asleep, I woke up to find a fire."
There were no casualties, but 14 residents inhaled smoke, and among them, 9 were transported to the hospital.
Part of the first floor of the apartment where the fire occurred was damaged, resulting in property damage estimated by the fire department at about 73.5 million KRW. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other houses.
