111 Confirmed Cases at Anonymous Testing Sites in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] On the 27th, more than 100 additional confirmed cases were reported at temporary screening clinics operating in the Seoul metropolitan area to detect hidden infections of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) early.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH), a total of 34,123 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area the previous day, with 111 testing positive. This accounts for 11.7% of the 946 newly confirmed local cases reported that day.
Looking at the types of tests conducted the previous day, 33,705 cases underwent the nasopharyngeal swab polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, accounting for 98.8% of the total. There were 20 cases of saliva-based PCR tests, and 395 cases of rapid antigen tests, which can deliver results in as fast as 30 minutes.
When a rapid antigen test returns a positive result, the health authorities conduct a secondary nasopharyngeal swab PCR test; 3 such secondary tests were performed the previous day.

With one additional site added the previous day, anonymous testing at 151 temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area will continue until January 3 of next year. Anyone can get tested by providing only their mobile phone number, regardless of symptoms.
